Prop 1 proponents are lying by omission in their advertising, leaving out any mention of Ranked Choice Voting.
Under Prop 1, two massive changes to Idaho’s election system would be implemented. The first is the implementation of a Top-Four primary or jungle primary, and the second is the use of RCV during the general election.
We previously covered the lie that Prop 1 will “restore” an open primary because that isn’t what it will do. An open primary and a jungle primary are two very different things. They continually use this massive lie in all their ads. But that’s not what this article is about.
The other big lie from the pro-Prop 1 side is that they do not even bother to mention the RCV aspect of the initiative. This is by design, of course, because the proponents of Prop 1 know RCV is hugely unpopular.
Imagine completely changing the way Idahoans vote in November and not telling them about the change. Even during the signature-gathering phase, some signature-gatherers did not mention the RCV portion of the initiative.
In the last two weeks, I have received three campaign mailers from the Prop 1 side. The mailers do not mention RCV. Not a single word on the flyers talks about how the general election will change if Prop 1 passes.
Additionally, Idahoans for Open Primaries, the organization behind Prop 1, is running five video ads about the initiative. Do you want to guess how many times RCV is mentioned?
Zero.
The ads don’t mention RCV at all. Again, this is a massive lie by omission by the pro-Prop 1 crowd. There are eight ads in total and not one single mention of RCV.
They also have the gall to talk about “accountability” and the “voice of the people” when pushing Prop 1. Is it really the voice of the people if you trick them into voting for a lie?
Who will hold Idahoans for Open Primaries accountable for their lies and deceit when they know they are leaving out RCV from the initiative advertisements? Isn’t it their responsibility to truthfully and openly discuss all aspects of their initiative and the changes it will implement to Idaho voters?
If this article is the first time you have heard about RCV, then it is a fundamental change to the election system you must be aware of.
RCV is complicated and is going to cause a lot of confusion. You will no longer vote for one person on your ballot. You will instead rank four or five candidates in order of preference. This means you will have to study many more candidates’ positions than you are used to.
Implementing RCV will cost a lot of money, and the Idaho Secretary of State’s Office isn’t sure how to implement the “instant runoff” portion of the initiative for statewide races. This means that we could see delayed election results lasting days or weeks.
There is a lot more to discuss when it comes to RCV, but Idahoans really need to ask themselves: Can you trust the motives behind the pro-Prop 1 side if they aren’t willing to tell you exactly what the initiative will do?
Prop 1 is a liberal takeover attempt by Democrats who are upset that their ideas are not welcome in Idaho. The real goal behind Prop 1 is to get rid of conservative elected officials in place of elected officials who will be more pro-abortion, pro-gun control, and pro-big government.
Idahoans should overwhelmingly reject Prop 1 at the polls and send a message to the liberal elites across the country trying to push their agenda on Idaho.
I agree this should not pass!
Vote NO on Prop 1. Glenn Beck has sold us out and is running support Prop 1 ads and there is Veterans for Idaho Votes pushing for it too. I am pissed as a disabled vet they do not allow open remarks on their website and most veterans I know do not support Prop 1. This gives us a bad name and makes it appear they speak for ALL veterans which they certainly do not. I took an oath to my country and state and do not support communism and the erosion of our freedoms. I had zero issue voting for my representatives in the caucus. Again, Vote NO on Prop 1.
